Meet Sabreena Covington of Sisters Breaking Chains Together - Voyage Dallas

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabreena Covington.

Sabreena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.

My journey started with forgiveness by faith for my freedom. After more than 20 years of not really having a relationship with my mother, God decided it was time for reconciliation.

Since Mother’s Day of 2017, my mother and I have been communicating at least once a week, if not more. Shortly thereafter, I felt led to share my testimony to help other women break the chains of their past and be able to forgive for their freedom. Past hurt and pain can keep people in mental, physical and emotional bondage. I was only planning to tell my testimony once, but God had a different plan for me.

The fall event in 2017 led to other speaking engagements and a desire to help youth girls in addition to women. In fall 2018, the first teen talk was held for youth girls and the women who took the time to bring them to the event. I realized that this is my passion… to help women and youth girls break generational strongholds. Through my journey, I’ve learned that our past can make us stronger if we as sisters band together to break the chains.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

No, it has not been a smooth road.

-Struggle #1 Putting my faith into action and stepping out into the unknown. Starting a non-profit wasn’t part of my plan, or so I thought.
